SUNDAY NOVEMBER 27 - FIRST DAY OF ADVENT
The Advent season is a time of preparation that directs our hearts and minds to Christ’s second coming at the end of time and to the anniversary of Our Lord’s birth on Christmas. The readings for the 1st Sunday of Advent Year A speak of readiness for the coming of Jesus Christ. In the first reading, we hear that God will establish His kingdom and we must be ready to walk in the light of God.

El nuevo ano litúrgico ha comenzado con este primer domingo y semana, Adviento es nuestro primer tiempo litúrgico en el año de la Iglesia.
El mensaje este domingo es de salvación, esperanza, estar despierto, se habla de un nuevo orden mundial, un cambio, y para eso debemos estar preparados porque somos nosotros los protagonistas de ese nuevo orden desde luego guiados e invitados por Dios a ser sus instrumentos.
Es tiempo de pensar en nuestro plan personal, familiar, comunitario, parroquia, grupal, algo que nos haga perseguir y conseguir la fe, la esperanza, y esto será cuando nosotros pongamos nuestra fe y fuerzas en Jesucristo nuestro Salvador y en la gracia y la fuerza del Espíritu Santo.
Abraham es modelo de esperanza: "esperando contra toda esperanza creyó y fue hecho padre de muchas naciones" (Rom 4, 18). Isaías es el profeta de la esperanza "Al final de los días estará firme el monte de la casa del Señor". En Adviento hay otros personajes de la esperanza: San Juan Bautista, Santa María de la Esperanza y San José de la Esperanza: dice el Evangelio que le costó comprender lo que Dios le pedía, "pero hizo lo que le había dicho el ángel". Nuestra esperanza se fundamenta en Jesucristo, el Emmanuel, "Dios con nosotros". Él es nuestra justicia, el Príncipe de la Paz.
En la Liturgia de la Iglesia esta esperanza la fomentamos con ciertos signos de adviento, para ayudarnos a entrar en esa reflexión tan importante, que es la salvación que nos vino con el nacimiento de Jesús. Podemos ayudarnos a reflexionar estando atentos a cada domingo de adviento.
Tenemos:
Corona de Adviento: Durante el adviento, se coloca en las iglesias y también en algunos hogares una corona de ramas de pino, llamada “Corona de Adviento”. Esta corona tiene cuatro velas, una por cada domingo de adviento. Hay una pequeña tradición de adviento: a cada una de esas cuatro velas se le asigna una virtud que hay que mejorar en esa semana, por ejemplo: la primera, el amor; la segunda, la paz; la tercera, la tolerancia y la cuarta, la fe.
Significado: El término adviento viene del latín “adventus”, que significa venida. El adviento es un tiempo de alegría y agradecimiento por el advenimiento de Nuestro Señor Jesucristo. Estas cuatro semanas que preceden a la Navidad son una oportunidad para prepararse en la esperanza y en el arrepentimiento para la llegada del Señor.
Calendario de Adviento: El calendario de adviento simboliza nuestras metas y tareas para prepararnos a la venida del Salvador, mientras esperamos su llegada, hagamos las obras que se nos encargan, esto es vivir pendientes cada día en este adviento de nuestra familia a quienes amamos, de los enfermos a los que debemos cuidar y orar por ellos, los pobres o más necesitados, la oración que nos llene de esperanza en ese nuevo orden que traerá la salvación.
Miremos como lo hace Dios , con la mirada puesta en la nueva luz, el nacimiento, la palabra de vida y salvación.

Sunday, November 20, Hand n Hand distributed over a hundred bags of food, and a turkey to each of our 21 families in need. Thank you so much to our sponsors, the Arrow of Light, Weeblos, Lions/Tigers, and Wolves/Bears Cub Scout troops, our anonymous turkey donor, whom we affectionately call the “Turkey Man”, and the OLG 5th Grade Girl Scout troop who came on Sunday to help carry the many bags of food to our parishioners’ cars. God is good! Many blessings to all and a Happy Thanksgiving from Hand n Hand!

Spread the Joy of the Lord with Christmas Help us prepare for the birth of our Lord by spreading His joy through Christmas Caroling on December 9 at 6:30 pm. Meet at the Parish Hall for some Hot Coco and treats and then caravan to different homes where we will sing Christmas Carols. All singing voices are welcome.

CAMINO PILGRIMAGE 2023 - Sign up by Dec 1 & Prep Walk on Dec 10!
Sign up here to join the team at OLG to walk the final 113 KM of El Camino de Santiago - an ancient pilgrimage route in Spain. We will be departing LA on July 14 or 15, walking El Camino de Santiago on July 17-22, 2023, celebrating the Feast of St. James in Santiago on July 24, and returning to LA on July 26-27. Individual trips are customizable as many in our group will elect to travel over early or stay after on their own. Our initial deadline for sign-up is Dec 1, 2022. Please fill out one form for each participant. Sign-ups after that date will be accepted based on availability. There is a suggested $600 donation per person for those wanting to walk El Camino, plus additional expenses to/from Spain. Fundraising opportunities are available to help support those preparing to walk the way of St. James.
