The Dedication of the Lateran Basilica - Feast, November 9, 2025
Today is the Dedication of the Lateran Basilica. Most people think that St. Peter’s Basilica at the Vatican is the mother church, but that is incorrect. Yes, St. Peter’s is where all the high-profile events of the Catholic Church take place. But for all of Catholicism, the Basilica of St. John Lateran in Rome is the mother church. The basilica is named after St. John the Baptist, and after the Lateranus family, on whose property the great church was built. St. John Lateran is the earliest basilica of Christianity.
But, as we know, even the stunning beauty of a church building such as St. John Lateran is no match for the glory of the Risen Jesus living in each one of us as members of his Body. As we celebrate the dedication of our mother church, let us be reminded that a church building is only as good as the people who gather and worship within.

Un Mensaje Del Padre Carlos
La Iglesia celebra hoy la Dedicación de la Basílica de San Juan de Letrán. Esta basílica fue construida por el emperador Constantino en el siglo IV sobre un antiguo palacio, y fue consagrada por el papa san Silvestre en el año 324. Está dedicada a Jesús Salvador, y siendo la catedral del Papa, es la iglesia madre de todas las iglesias de Roma y del mundo.
La Iglesia decimos es divina y humana, nosotros formamos la Iglesia en la tierra de forma humana, con debilidades, problemas, situaciones difíciles, pero la Iglesia divina es la formada por el Padre, Hijo y el Espíritu Santo, es el cielo y la tierra unidas en la vida celeste y la terrestre. Por eso en el evangelio Jesús está molesto, porque el templo en la tierra nos hace referencia a la adoración, a la oración, al culto, a la mística de los hombres y mujeres que quieren venerar a Dios, hablarle, cantarle, y el templo espiritual es símbolo de aquello santuario de la primera lectura hoy, pero ahora regado por la gracia de los sacramentos, que son los que enriquecen a la Iglesia humana. Es por esto por lo que Jesús dice que la reconstruiré en tres días, y piden que cuidemos el templo, se refiere al físico, humano y divino. Somos un cuerpo con Espíritu y vida. Y nos dirigimos al templo a la Iglesia, estructura a encontrarnos con el Dios que está ahí en la presencia eucarística y que nos alimenta y nos salva. La referencia a la casa es divina, todas habitadas por humanos que buscamos a Dios y lo queremos vivir haciéndolo presente en nuestros medios. Bendiciones.

The father is incarcerated and mother has a tumor near her head with the two youngest on the autistic spectrum.

During the holidays, many people travel to see family. It’s important to be prepared for any dangers of traveling, including human trafficking — and to know the facts about abductions and trafficking. According to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC), about 100 children per year are abducted by strangers across the nation. Although most abductions involve someone the victim knows and even trusts, “stranger danger” still exists. Always be careful in protecting our children and young people wherever they are. NATIONAL VOCATION AWARENESS WEEK
November 5-11, 2023 is an annual week-long celebration of the Catholic Church in the United States dedicated to promoting vocations to the priesthood, diaconate, and consecrated life through prayer and education, and to renew our prayers and support for those who are considering one of these particular vocations.
PATHWAY TO DISCIPLESHIP WRAP UP & WHAT’S NEXT EVENING
Peace to our Disciples of Jesus Christ who have participated in our first Pathway to Discipleship! You are invited to a one-evening reunion, to catch up with one another and learn more opportunities on how you can continue the journey.
The gathering will be on Wednesday November 29th from 6:00 to 8:30 PM. Like other sessions, we will provide a meal, childcare, Praise & Worship, a presentation, prayer time, and small group discussion. Hop on board the Eucharistic Caravan to walk with Our Lord through the streets of San Francisco as pilgrims move towards Indianapolis for the National Eucharistic Congress this July. A pilgrimage is the simultaneous
movement of feet and soul to encounter God. This is a journey WITH Jesus. With the gift of the Eucharist, Jesus gave us a new way to walk alongside him. Do you want to accompany Jesus this May?
