FIRST SUNDAY OF ADVENT
November 30, 2025
Today is the First Sunday of Advent. This sacred time serves as our spiritual compass, pointing us toward the true direction of our faith amidst the busyness of the world. The Church challenges us this first Sunday to lift our gaze and reflect on the ultimate fulfillment of God's plan of salvation—the promised return of Christ at the end of time. As we hear in today's Scriptures, the prophets Isaiah and Saint Paul both urge us to "awake from sleep," for our salvation is nearer now than when we first believed. Like the people in the days of Noah, we are called to be alert, to stay awake, and to listen to the Lord who brings wisdom and peace to the nations.

Este fin de semana inauguramos en la Iglesia catolica un nuevo año litúrgico el 2026 y el Adviento es, por tanto, el primer tiempo litúrgico de este año y son 4 semanas de camino hacia la celebración central del nacimiento de Jesús ,el salvador del mundo . Es un tiempo de esperanza activa, de vigilancia y conversión. No se trata de un simple preámbulo a la Navidad, sino de un tiempo de gracia en el que Dios nos despierta del sueño de la rutina y nos llama a vivir con el corazón encendido. En medio de la prisa, del ruido y del consumismo que suelen llenar estas semanas, la liturgia nos invita a detenernos, a hacer silencio, a mirar más allá de lo inmediato y descubrir los signos discretos de la presencia de Cristo entre nosotros.
La Palabra de Dios de este domingo —con la voz profética de Isaías, la exhortación de San Pablo y el llamado de Jesús a “velar”— nos sitúa ante la urgencia de despertar, de abrir los ojos a lo esencial. Este es el espíritu del Adviento: vivir atentos a la venida del Señor, con fe, con alegría y con esperanza renovada. Normalmente son como dos enfoques las dos primeras semanas de la preparación y espera y las siguientes dos en torno a la cercanía y humanidad del Salvador, anunciemos todos que Jesús viene a Salvarnos . PREPARING OUR HEARTS FOR THE GREATEST GIFT - JESUS CHRIST
We are in the season of Advent, a time of preparation that directs our hearts and minds to Christ’s second coming and the anniversary of Our Lord’s birth on Christmas.
This 1st week of Advent, we embrace the theme of HOPE, recognizing its importance in our lives and hearts. As we light the first Advent wreath candle, we ask God to bless us as we seek to bring the light of Christ to all we know.

ADORATION OF THE BLESSED SACRAMENT
EVERY TUESDAY. In the Church from 4-7 PM
During Tuesday Adoration, we pray the Divine Mercy Chaplet in Spanish at 5 PM and in English at 5:50 PM and end with benediction at 6:55 PM. All the other time on Tuesday is spent in quiet prayer before Jesus, present in the Eucharist

We can show our adoration to God in many ways. During Adoration, we spend time in the true presence of Christ in the Eucharist. It places your soul in the direct presence of Jesus Christ in the trust that he will act if we leave the door open with the merest crack. All it requires is our ability to sit down. This Christmas, OLG has committed to 3 families from The Cathedral of Our Lady of Angels Adopt-a-Family Program. We invite you to help us in this holiday effort!

Grandma has cancer and it’s been hard financially and emotionally.

Blessed to be a part of Homeboy Industries, the largest gang rehabilitation and re-entry program.

The father is incarcerated and mother has a tumor near her head with the two youngest on the autistic spectrum.

If you are working with or around minors in the Catholic Church in the parish, sports, clubs, or school settings, you are required by the Archdiocese to complete the Safeguard the Children/Virtus training and a Live Scan, fingerprinted. If you are a parent volunteer and have been fingerprinted previously, you do not need to do it again. Contact the church office if you have questions.

November 29-30 || Facts about community grooming
There is a third type of grooming: community grooming. In community grooming, a predator creates a controlled environment, projecting an image of a responsible, caring adult. They mimic the behavior of good people around them, to get closer to children and then select a victim. Adults often have trouble seeing potentially troubling behavior, because they have been groomed to see the predator as an upstanding person. NATIONAL VOCATION AWARENESS WEEK
November 5-11, 2023 is an annual week-long celebration of the Catholic Church in the United States dedicated to promoting vocations to the priesthood, diaconate, and consecrated life through prayer and education, and to renew our prayers and support for those who are considering one of these particular vocations.
PATHWAY TO DISCIPLESHIP WRAP UP & WHAT’S NEXT EVENING
Peace to our Disciples of Jesus Christ who have participated in our first Pathway to Discipleship! You are invited to a one-evening reunion, to catch up with one another and learn more opportunities on how you can continue the journey.
The gathering will be on Wednesday November 29th from 6:00 to 8:30 PM. Like other sessions, we will provide a meal, childcare, Praise & Worship, a presentation, prayer time, and small group discussion. The topics presented will be how to continue your spiritual growth as individuals or in groups, and/or join in our parish ministry of evangelization or serve the parish in other ways. Please join us! Jesus is calling us Deeper. He promises to restore and renew his people. This Eucharist Revival Kick-Off will speak about the National Movement, Revival at OLG, and experience our Lord through Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament. All are invited!

EUCHARISTIC CARAVAN, MAY 16, 17, 18
Hop on board the Eucharistic Caravan to walk with Our Lord through the streets of San Francisco as pilgrims move towards Indianapolis for the National Eucharistic Congress this July. A pilgrimage is the simultaneous
movement of feet and soul to encounter God. This is a journey WITH Jesus. With the gift of the Eucharist, Jesus gave us a new way to walk alongside him. Do you want to accompany Jesus this May?

SECOND COLLECTION
This weekend in lieu of the Maintenance Fund, OLG will hold a special collection for the Holy Land Emergency Relief Fund, to help those who are going through extreme difficulties in Gaza and Israel. In solidarity with our suffering brothers and sisters, Archbishop Gomez has asked all parishes to consider this special collection.
