This Fourth Sunday of Easter, we celebrate Good Shepherd Sunday and the World Day of Prayer for Vocations, which was instituted for the Catholic Church on April 11, 1964, by Pope Paul VI. Since 1971, we have observed Good Shepherd Sunday, a day that highlights the Good Shepherd’s care for His sheep, calling them by name. The sheep recognize His voice and follow Him.
On this day, let us reflect on the concept of vocation, which applies to everyone. While we often speak of the priestly vocation, we must also consider the paths of consecrated life, religious life, missionary work, and yes, the vocation to married life. The Second Vatican Council reminds us that the priestly vocation is the foundation of all other vocations within the Church. Therefore, praying for priestly vocations is, in essence, praying for all vocations and for the well-being of the entire Church.
LET'S PREPARE OUR HEARTS BEFORE MASS
In today’s Gospel, Jesus identifies himself not just as our protector, but as the very “gate” through which we must enter to find safety and life. As we gather, we also join the universal Church in the World Day of Prayer for Vocations, asking the Lord to send more shepherds to care for his flock. Let us open our hearts to hear the voice of the one who knows us each by name.
Spending time reading and praying with the Mass readings before Mass helps prepare your heart to receive what God wants to communicate to you.

Este IV Domingo de pascua , Celebramos el Domingo del Buen Pastor y la Jornada Mundial de Oración por las Vocaciones, instituida para la Iglesia Católica el 11 de abril de 1964 por el Papa Pablo VI. Desde el año 1971 se celebra el Domingo del Buen Pastor , así le llamamos porque El cuida las ovejas y las llama por su nombre, ellas reconocen su voz y lo siguen .
En este día reflexionemos sobre la vocación, esto es para todos en general , se habla de la vocación sacerdotal , pero también de la vida consagrada y religiosa o misionera y porque no la vocación a la vida matrimonial .El Concilio Vaticano II nos recuerda que la vocación sacerdotal es la fuente de todas las demás vocaciones en la Iglesia. Por eso, orar por las vocaciones sacerdotales, esa en el fondo, orar por todas las vocaciones y por el bien de toda la Iglesia.
Los primeros discípulos o apóstoles predican de la necesidad de convertirse y seguir a Jesús resucitado y esta es la vocación universal la del bautizado que ha recibido el Espíritu santo y la promesa de salvación .
El Salmo 22 compara la relación de Dios con Israel con el cuidado que muestra un pastor hacia su rebaño; sus atenciones inspiran una confianza total. En la segunda lectura, san Pedro compara a quienes no tienen fe con ovejas descarriadas (así eran antes los cristianos a los que dirige su carta); califica a Jesús de «pastor y guardián de nuestras almas». El pasaje evangélico habla tanto del cuidado del Buen Pastor por sus ovejas como del peligro que representan para estas los falsos pastores. Paz y Bien

World Day of Prayer for Vocations
Sunday, April 26, the Church throughout the world prays for vocations. Will you make a special effort to ask the Lord for vocations to the priesthood and religious life? Pray for the priests who have ministered to you throughout your life, both living and dead. Encourage your children, grandchildren, or other young people to consider a vocation as a priest or religious brother or sister. Pray a rosary for more young men and women in our diocese to respond to God’s call.

As Catholics, we firmly believe that God has a plan for our lives! He calls some to marriage, some to the priesthood, and others to religious life or to live as generous single people. Fully living our own vocations—and teaching young people how to discern God’s call—is a serious duty, but also a joyful one. During this week, please encourage the young people in your life—children, grandchildren, students, and friends—to be open if God calls them to the priesthood or religious life.

STAMP OUT HUNGER FOOD DRIVE - MAY 9
OLG receives tons (literally tons) of food from this event. We are also working with House of Yahweh/South Bay Outreach so that both of our organizations can get food. Once we fill up our pantry, Yahweh will pick up all the additional food they can, along with other participating organizations. Thank you for supporting STAMP OUT HUNGER!
On Saturday, May 9, all you need to do is leave non-perishable food in a bag by your mailboxes, and then the letter carriers will pick up your food donation when they deliver the mail.

NILAND SCHOLARSHIP
The OLG Niland Education Fund Scholarship offers a $1000 scholarship for a graduating 8th grader from Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish continuing on to a Catholic High School. Applications will be available in the Parish office beginning Thursday, May 7th. Submit completed application to the Parish office, along with the most recent report card, in a large manila envelope addressed to Attn: Niland Education Fund Board of Trustees to Parish Office by 3:30 pm, Thursday, May 21st, 2026. Late/Incomplete applications will not be considered. Selection made by the Niland Fund Board of Trustees by June 2nd, with notification by email.

November 5-11, 2023 is an annual week-long celebration of the Catholic Church in the United States dedicated to promoting vocations to the priesthood, diaconate, and consecrated life through prayer and education, and to renew our prayers and support for those who are considering one of these particular vocations.
PATHWAY TO DISCIPLESHIP WRAP UP & WHAT’S NEXT EVENING
Peace to our Disciples of Jesus Christ who have participated in our first Pathway to Discipleship! You are invited to a one-evening reunion, to catch up with one another and learn more opportunities on how you can continue the journey.

Hop on board the Eucharistic Caravan to walk with Our Lord through the streets of San Francisco as pilgrims move towards Indianapolis for the National Eucharistic Congress this July. A pilgrimage is the simultaneous
movement of feet and soul to encounter God. This is a journey WITH Jesus. With the gift of the Eucharist, Jesus gave us a new way to walk alongside him. Do you want to accompany Jesus this May?

OCIA - Order of Christian Initiation of Adults
Last Saturday, Nov 8, we were blessed to have 22 adults celebrate The Rite of Acceptance. We joyfully welcome all these Adults and ask our parish community.
Please pray for these men and women as they continue their faith journey in the months to come, preparing for initiation into the Christian faith by Baptism, Confirmation, and Eucharist.
