SOLEMNITY OF THE ASCENSION OF THE LORD
SUNDAY, MAY 17, 2026
This Sunday commemorates the Ascension of the Lord, the event described in the Gospels and Acts of the Apostles, where Jesus, after his resurrection, ascended into heaven. Historically, the Ascension was celebrated on a Thursday, 40 days after Easter. However, many dioceses, including the Archdiocese of Los Angeles, move the celebration to Sunday
Today's readings remind us that where the Head has gone in glory, the Body is called to follow in hope. While the disciples stood gazing at the sky, they were quickly turned toward their new mission: to be witnesses of God's love to the world. We are invited today to move from simply believing in Christ to actively witnessing Him in our daily lives.

Thank you to all those who participated in the Stamp Out Food Drive on Sat. May 9, by leaving food at your mailbox. It is the Nation's largest single-day food drive. The 2026 Stamp Out Hunger food drive in the South Bay/Los Angeles area, which includes Redondo Beach, was a major success, contributing to a regional effort that collected over 1 million pounds of food for Local Community Services. OLG is one of the many community organizations that received food from the collection last weekend. It is a blessing to see our food pantry filled with food that will help our Families in need.

Guadalupe Youth Ministry (G.Y.M.) is currently building a Youth Worship Team, and we are looking for donated instruments and music equipment to help bring this ministry to life. Guitars, drums, keyboards, microphones, speakers, cables, and other worship equipment would all be greatly appreciated.
Your donation can help our young people grow in faith, lead others in worship, and use their God-given gifts to glorify Christ. Thank you for helping support the next generation of worship leaders in our parish community.

NILAND SCHOLARSHIP
The OLG Niland Education Fund Scholarship offers a $1000 scholarship for a graduating 8th grader from Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish continuing on to a Catholic High School. Applications are available in the Parish office. Submit completed application to the Parish office, along with the most recent report card, in a large manila envelope addressed to Attn: Niland Education Fund Board of Trustees to Parish Office by 3:30 pm, Thursday, May 21st, 2026. Late/Incomplete applications will not be considered. Selection made by the Niland Fund Board of Trustees by June 2nd, with notification by email.

WHAT CAN YOU DO TO HELP?
Every Catholic is called to protect the most vulnerable, including children who are at risk for abuse and exploitation.
If you are working with or around minors in the Catholic Church in the parish, sports, clubs, or school settings, you are required by the Archdiocese to complete the Safeguard the Children/Virtus training and a Live Scan, fingerprinted. If you are a parent volunteer and have been fingerprinted previously, you do not need to do it again. Contact the church office if you have questions.

Keeping children from harm is essential, but it is just as important to prioritize the protection of vulnerable adults. A vulnerable adult is someone who, due to a physical, mental, emotional, or behavior condition, may not be able to protect themselves from harm or exploitation. Warning signs of abuse can include injuries, signs of apparent malnutrition or dehydration, soiled clothing or bedding, anxiety, and unclean living conditions. By understanding the reality of vulnerable adult abuse, considering our own behavior, learning warning signs and communicating concerns – we can strive to protect other who may not be in a position to protect themselves. NATIONAL VOCATION AWARENESS WEEK
November 5-11, 2023 is an annual week-long celebration of the Catholic Church in the United States dedicated to promoting vocations to the priesthood, diaconate, and consecrated life through prayer and education, and to renew our prayers and support for those who are considering one of these particular vocations.
PATHWAY TO DISCIPLESHIP WRAP UP & WHAT’S NEXT EVENING
Peace to our Disciples of Jesus Christ who have participated in our first Pathway to Discipleship! You are invited to a one-evening reunion, to catch up with one another and learn more opportunities on how you can continue the journey.
The gathering will be on Wednesday November 29th from 6:00 to 8:30 PM. Like other sessions, we will provide a meal, childcare, Praise & Worship, a presentation, prayer time, and small group discussion. The topics presented will be how to continue your spiritual growth as individuals or in groups, and/or join in our parish ministry of evangelization or serve the parish in other ways. Please join us! Hop on board the Eucharistic Caravan to walk with Our Lord through the streets of San Francisco as pilgrims move towards Indianapolis for the National Eucharistic Congress this July. A pilgrimage is the simultaneous
movement of feet and soul to encounter God. This is a journey WITH Jesus. With the gift of the Eucharist, Jesus gave us a new way to walk alongside him. Do you want to accompany Jesus this May?

This weekend in lieu of the Maintenance Fund, OLG will hold a special collection for the Holy Land Emergency Relief Fund, to help those who are going through extreme difficulties in Gaza and Israel. Last Saturday, Nov 8, we were blessed to have 22 adults celebrate The Rite of Acceptance. We joyfully welcome all these Adults and ask our parish community.
Please pray for these men and women as they continue their faith journey in the months to come, preparing for initiation into the Christian faith by Baptism, Confirmation, and Eucharist.
